Only 9 of the original 13 colonies voted yes to the ratification of the Declaration. South Carolina, the rabble rousers of the original 13, voted no. In a piece of historical irony the host state of Independence Hall & The Liberty Bell, Pennsylvania, voted no.
John Adams & Thomas Jefferson both died 50 years after the Declaration, on July 4th, within a few hours of each other.
Did you know that England has no Independence Day celebration? She has never had to declare independence.
